Welcome
to the Situational Safety Awareness assessment and training facility for hazardous environments

Advances in safety management have demonstrated the need to further understand the capacity for safe behaviour that people bring to the job.

It is now well known that more than 80% of preventable incidents are due to human factors. Furthermore, that trained and conscientious people routinely make mistakes, meaning that technical skills alone are not a defense to unintentional error.

The key attribute predicting safe outcomes is the extent to which the person is able to maintain their situational awareness. Defined as an individuals ability to stay alert, notice what is going on around them, anticipate danger and respond in a timely way.

Assessment of the person’s ability is provided through the key items in the behavioural and competency based questionnaire and compared to that of the standard known to predict safe behaviour.

The instruments have been derived from experience and professionally validated to deliver a probability of risk score. The detail in the test outputs provide further insights for an interviewer into a person’s capacity.

The Psyfactors Facility.

The online system provides you with full control of delivering the instruments and obtaining immediate screen and a variety of emailed printouts, including the test verification and other comprehensive results in the automatic reporting features.

Purchasing Tests.

Test or training credits are purchased then instantly allocated for use. Each transaction is one credit. Prices for the various products are visible in the purchase page. Please note: the appropriate instrument(s) for the BHP Billiton contractor requirement is the SSA Mining V4.1 survey and similar versions for Construction, Transport, Security, Mobile Equipment Operators, Admin Personnel, Graduates and Apprentices.

  • ALL SITE OPERATIONS PERSONNEL - The SSA INVENTORY (MINING) v4.1 instrument is a 115 item and 35 minute test of safety competencies and preferred behaviours with respect to safety. Used for assessing the probability of safe behaviour in normal functioning adults working in operational roles in mining and refining environments.

  • Admin & Training Support Personnel - The SSA INV (ADMIN & UTILITIES) v1.1a , is a 85 item short untimed version of the SSA test. Use this for assessing normal people operating in non operational or administrative / training roles in low hazard contexts.
